FOOTBALL: Eastbourne Town vs Hassocks, 07/09/2019.

The Verse’s Sports Editor reviews the football match between Eastbourne Town vs Hassocks on 7th September 2019.

Could there be a more civilised sports venue than the Saffron’s in Eastbourne? Where else could your correspondent enjoy a game of croquet before strolling across the cricket ground to report on this match? Pure heaven indeed.

Both teams have had a good start to the season and an excellent game was in prospect.

Ground entry is a modest £6 with £3 for concessions. The programme is an economical joy at just £1 and beers are available next door in the social club which can be brought into the ground.

Eastbourne began strongly, pressuring Hassocks at every opportunity, whilst defending diligently when the odd occasion arose. They thoroughly deserved their win and the 4-1 score flattered the away team. Many more performances like this and Eastbourne Town could be dreaming of a trophy or two, come the end of the season.

The programme had a splendid cover featuring TinTin. Now with the Thompson Twins spearheading the attack, and Captain Haddock in midfield, we might have a glance or two at some silverware this season…
