Have you ever worked for a chain fashion store? Noticed some policies that seemed particularly unfair? A national news journalist wants help exposing wage cheating by high street fashion stores, and you could help.
A campaigning journalist is asking Brighton University students for help exposing high street stores that cheat their staff –especially those who work in fashion retail. Students who work part time, especially in national chains, can help expose this penny-pinching cheating. All information will be treated in confidence, and nobody will have their name in the papers (without express permission).
The two common scams are:
(1) Staff being asked to turn up for “briefings” before their hourly pay kicks in, or generally being asked to sign in for work early, before their pay starts.
(2) Staff being told to buy clothes/shoes from the shops own range, without being given a clothing allowance to pay for it.
All information will be treated in confidence, but accurate reporting – including dates, places, names and even photos – are very helpful.
