After winning the Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent Competition in 2015, Declan McKenna swiftly began to climb the ranks of guitar-based indie artists. At only sixteen years old, McKenna experienced great success with the politically driven Brazil. The song was a protest to the money-crazed organisations such as FIFA during the football World Cup, sparking great interest in the music industry. Thus, the young British lad’s career was about to take off in a way that rarely happens in this day and age.
2017 has been a phenomenal year for McKenna. The release of his debut album What Do You Think Of The Car? was an instant hit with his fans, containing singles Bethlehem and Isombard that helped make 2016 an important year for him. It’s impossible to not be won over by the melancholic guitar that is the backbone of Bethlehem, while the video game-esque electronics in Isombard set it apart from the rest of his album.
