PREVIEW: Dermot Kennedy @ The Haunt, 17/02/2018

The Verse’s Lottie Wilson previews Dermot Kennedy ahead of his set at the Haunt on 17th of February 2018.

With inspirations such as Drake and Kanye West, Dermot Kennedy’s music has much to live up to. However, the singer-songwriter strikes the perfect balance between urban sound with acoustic earnest.

With a soulful grit, Kennedy explores the intricacies of life, singing about the highs and lows of love. This artist has been one to watch; with many of his tracks being initially released on YouTube in 2014. His raw music tells the tale of lost love, a sentiment that runs throughout his releases. Over time Kennedys’ music began to shift, incorporating the style of his icons. Combining heavy beats and raw guitar, along with the soulful piano.

The songwriter’s big break came in 2016 when Spotify began to playlist his music, recognised for his storytelling, he now has over two million monthly listeners on the platform. Kennedy is set to tour America in 2018, performing in theatres and bars across states. Whilst his success could warrant larger venues, dark and intimate venues suit his sound. Before the U.S leg of the tour, the singer-songwriter will be performing tracks from his 2017 EP Doves & Ravens and some of his well-loved singles at Brighton’s The Haunt. This intimate venue will make his lyrics seem even more powerful, and you’ll be falling in love with his songs before you know it.

If you want to hear Dermot Kennedys’ tales of love and life, make sure to visit The Haunt on the 17th of February 2018.
