Australian singer-songwriters, The Veronicas, performed at Concorde 2 in Brighton. It was the penultimate show in their Sanctified tour and was also twins Jessica and Lisa’s first time in Brighton. ‘It’s the coolest city,’ Lisa told the audience.
Both girls wore PVC outfits, similar to the costumes worn in their music video for Cruel, which was released the same day as the Brighton show.
The duo began with the slow and tame song Sanctified before bursting into more lively tracks from their new album (out 16th March) such as Did You Miss Me. Their effortlessly cool stage persona matched perfectly to the rebellious electro-pop feel of the music, making the gig great to watch as well as listen to.
One of the most notable segments of the show was their acoustic rendition of Everything I’m Not and You Ruin Me, the latter of which reached number 8 in the UK charts. It was here that the girls’ vocal ability was really emphasised, as they delivered a moving performance with exceedingly powerful and flawless voices.
As the gig drew to an end, the two performed some of their most famous hits such as Untouched (which peaked at number 8 in the UK charts) and 4Ever. These were clearly audience favourites, as fans sang, clapped and jumped along.
It was no surprise then, when the crowd begged for more and the band returned with an encore, finishing with feel-good tune If you Love Someone. During this, the girls strutted around the stage waving a Sea Shepherd flag (an organisation dedicated to protecting marine life), as well as LGBT flags, making it an ideal finale for a show in Brighton, the UK’s ‘gay capital’.
