Student Elections, Candidate running for VP Activities and Events is Kate Reynolds

Her Manifesto:

Hey! My name is Kate Reynolds and I’m a final year Biomedical Science student running for the role of VP Activities and Events. From the offset I’ve got myself stuck into Uni life becoming a member of Brighton Panthers Dance Squad, representing our university in three national competitions. I was also chosen to be Social Secretary in my second year, organising a weekly night out ending in the infamous ‘Oceana Wednesdays’. For two and a half years I have worked at the university gym for Sport Brighton ensuring all sports teams and societies have access to the facilities they need, which has allowed me to understand how much room for improvement there is in this area. The passion I have for enhancing sporting and society activities throughout the university, as well as throwing some incredible events, is the reason I am standing for this role. My aim is to make everyone else’s University experience as unforgettable as mine has been, and some. The changes I plan to make to the SU in terms of Activities and Events fall into three main categories:

EVENTS:

• DEDICATE A PAGE ON THE SU WEBSITE TO EVENTS RUN BY THE UNIVERSITY ACROSS ALL FIVE CAMPUS’
• GREATER PROMOTION OF NIGHTS OUT COVERING A WIDE RANGE OF MUSIC GENRES
• INTRODUCE FRESHTIVAL TO HASTINGS AND IMPROVE THE NIGHTLIFE AT THIS CAMPUS
• ALLOW THE STUDENTS AT EASTBOURNE TO DECIDE WHERE THEIR HOLLY BALL WILL BE HELD
• ARRANGE REGULAR COACH TRIPS FROM EASTBOURNE AND HASTINGS TO BRIGHTON TOWN

SOCIETIES

• WORK TO INCREASE THE FUNDING AVAILABLE AND ENSURE IT IS SPREAD FAIRLY ACROSS THE SOCIETIES
• CAMPAIGN FOR A MINIBUS THAT SOCIETIES CAN USE FOR TRAVEL TO COMPETITIONS AND FIXTURES
• INTRODUCE SOCFEST TO THE UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON GIVING STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRY OUT EVERY SOCIETY ON OFFER
• HELP RAG TO BECOME A COMPLETELY STUDENT LEAD SOCIETY

SPORTS AND FACILITIES

• IMPROVE SPORTS FACILITIES AT BOTH THE MOULSECOOMB AND HASTINGS CAMPUS
• HELP STUDENTS GET IN TOUCH WITH SPORTS TEAMS THEY ARE INTERESTED IN BEING A PART OF
• INCREASE AWARENESS OF THE SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES ALREADY RUN AT THE FITNESS CENTRES

Finally if I was elected into this role I would like to set up a discussion board, a place for students to make suggestions of what more could be done for Activities and Events at the University of Brighton, because most importantly it’s YOUR opinion that counts!
