Student Elections , running for Vice President of Activities and Events Marvalyn Omoyinmi

Hi I’m Marvalyn Omoyinmi and I am running to be your Vice President of Activities and Events. I believe that university should be the greatest experience of your life, and all students should graduate university with not just a degree, but with experiences and memories to last a lifetime.

Being the Biosoc Social Secretary this year, I have organised events such as the ‘Biosoc Lab Coat Pub Crawl’ and the ‘Biosoc End of Exams Party’ in association with Brighton Rox. These events had an attendance of nearly 200 students, and had positive feedback from both the students and BrightonRox. From this experience I feel I am equipped to increase the existing success of student union events.
One of my main aims is to widen the participation and accessibility of events by increasing the variety of events on offer, to allow for greater inclusivity of students belonging to various liberation groups such as; disabled students, mature students and LGBTQ students.

I will also strive for more students to take part in RAG events and challenges. Having been on a RAG challenge myself where I cycled from Vietnam to Cambodia, I can say that RAG was the most phenomenal experience of my life. However with fundraising targets being over £2000 and the length of the challenges being up to 3 weeks, it can be difficult for students to take part. By having challenges with lower fundraising targets and shorter duration times this will widen the scope of students that will be able to take part.
I will also aim to put channels in place which will enable better communication between societies and to help new and existing societies to develop and thrive.

On top of the previous points, I will address the consistency across campuses by improving the sporting facilities. Through having the quality and standard of equipment at the same level on all five campuses, will allow for all sports teams to enhance their performance and rise up the BUCS leagues.

It’s your university, your experience and your chance to make the most out of it.

Play bigger, Play bolder, play better.

VOTE MARVALYN.

Film Review: 'HER'

Tue Mar 4 , 2014
‘Her’, in quite simple terms, is stunning. Visually, it is near perfect. The whole film has a sepia, Instagram-like colour which acts as a successful visual filter throughout. Spike Jonze’s film explores the emotionally inept Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) and his journey through love and intimacy with his OS (Operating System), […]
