The Verse’s Kate Mager previews Boomtown, taking place at Matterley Estate near Winchester on 9th – 12th August 2018
On 9th August 2018, Boomtown turns the page for the next instalment of outlandish anti-establishment revelry in Chapter 10 ‘The Machine Cannot Be Stopped’. For four days, Matterly Estate in Hampshire offers more than just a festival – it gives punters a chance to be part of a story. Themed districts divide the city, covering an eclectic mix of genres ranging from Garage and D n’ B to Psychedelic and Funk and Soul.
Illustrious electronic indie ‘virtual’ band The Gorillaz are headlining this immersive festival. They come alongside South African Hip Hop legends Die Antwoord and American rap-rockers Limp Bizkit. This is just a scratch on the surface of the multitude of music and entertainment available across more than 25 main stages as well as 80 ‘street’ venues.

The festival’s best moments are often stumbled upon when least expected. Boomtown boasts a variety of music, entertainment, workshops and food Boomtown really widens the opportunity for discovery. Craft and healing workshops are also on offer, including the meditation, yoga, and more unusual activities such as a Drum and Bass Workout.
For the more conscious party-goers, it is reassuring to know that Boomtown works with many charities. This includes ‘Energy Revolution’, offsetting emissions of travel to and from the festival. Also, all food and drink containers and packaging on site will be paper, wooden or compostable.
With an impressive array of headliners and a growing reputation, it is no surprise that tickets sold out in February. But don’t fear, registration is open for a ticket resale; there is still hope of attending one of the most exciting festivals in the UK. Is it time to pack the booze, glitter (biodegradable of course) and baby wipes yet?!
