FESTIVAL PREVIEW: Download @ Donington Park, 08/05/18 – 10/05/18

The Verse’s Gemma Turner previews Download festival, taking place at Donington Park on 8th – 10th June 2018.

Download Festival is a mammoth rock event, based at the spiritual home of rock Donington Park. It has been host to rock heavyweights such as Saxon, Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Aerosmith. And this year’s line-up is no exception, with the likes of Guns and Roses, Marilyn Manson and Ozzy Osbourne to join the long line legends that have rocked the stage.

Originally started in 2003 with Iron Maiden as headliners, this festival has grown in strength and numbers. 2018 will bring you three stages of the most exciting acts in all things Rock and metal. As well as added extras such as circus of horrors, WWE, tattooists, comedians, and the Doghouse club nights; not forgetting a large array of mech stalls.

Eco-Camp

Download is also known for its eco-friendly approach. This year, Greenpeace is hosting a brand new campsite called Eco-Camp. It is situated on the Donington Estate, which plays home to ancient oak trees and native wildlife. The campsite is free for festival goers who value their environment just as much as rocking out to your favourite bands.

Super Villains

There is an annual ‘dress up day’, and this year Friday plays host to a Supervillain-themed dress up day. So get ready to don your Lycra and best catchphrases.

Lone Campers

Festivals are very much an individual experience as well as a group event. One of the most enjoyable things about the festival season is the potential to new people, but it can be daunting when you first arrive at a festival alone. Download have recognized this and developed Camp Loner – a place to meet many other people in the same position, looking to find new people to hang out and enjoy the festival with. Head over to Twitter or Facebook where you can join the forum prior.

If you are looking for a festival that is friendly and inclusive, Download is your festival. https://downloadfestival.co.uk/
