FESTIVAL PREVIEW: Reading @ Little John’s Farm, Reading, 24/06/18 – 26/06/18

The Verse’s Gemma Turner previews Reading festival, taking place 24th – 26th August 2018 at Little John’s Farm, Reading.

Any seasoned festival-goer will tell you that Reading Festival has been a British music festival ritual for many years, making its claim on the last bank holiday of the year in August. It runs alongside is sibling festival ‘Leeds’, coordinating acts between the two over the weekend. Reading has always been a dominator of the rock music scene. Headliners have included Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. However, over the last few years has expanded beyond that to be the host of genres: rock, indie, house, techno, drum and bass and grime.

This year’s headliners include Fall Out Boy, Maggie Rogers, Mike Shinoda, Sum 41, Kendrick Lemar, Panic at the Disco, My Nu Leng, Bicep (Live), with Big Shaq opening the main stage. But it doesn’t just end with music. Reading also has an impressive line up of some of the best comedians in the business such as Lee Nelson, Harry Hill, Sean Walsh, Joel Dommett.

Tips

Taking items to festivals can land you in strife. But let us not forget last years banned on Pineapples (a nod to Glass Animals). To avoid disappointment, (or an array of orphaned pineapples) try and leave them at home for 2018.

Another forward thought would be to minimalize the amount of bags that are taken to the stage areas. Obviously, these types of events are trained on keeping everyone safe; we as festival-goers could do our bit by making sure we try and leave our bags back at the tent. Rucksacks are such an inconvenience when you are trying to vibe to Bicep’s live set. A friendly tip: if you have to bring a bag, make sure it’s no bigger than an A4-sized piece of paper (sparkly bum bag shopping is encouraged prior).

If you’re an avid festival-goer or even a newbie, Reading is the festival for you. With a diverse lineup and festival community to match, Reading is always a firm favourite.
