Preview: Ruth Theodore @ Komedia, 02/05/17

Listening to the charismatic and soulful sounds of Ruth Theodore’s latest single, Kissing in Traffic, it’s difficult to believe that at one stage she might not have been able to play the guitar at all. At age five, doctors just weren’t so sure.

Self-taught on the streets, her twistingly enigmatic music sprawls across an acoustic canvas to create an astonishingly accessible sound. While refreshingly modern, Theodore’s blues-folk manages to embrace the comforting familiarity often associated with its genre.

While you may only be hearing her for the first time, she’s an experienced artist. New album Cactacus, is her sixth effort, and looks sure to introduce her to an ever-larger public.

Ruth Theodore plays @ Komedia Brighton on May 2nd. Tickets available here.
