Jake Bugg and first act ONR. take on Brighton Dome with huge success for the opening night of their 2020 tour
With Brighton as the first stop of his 2020 tour, Jake Bugg offered us an evening of indie rock, folk, country and blues, a mix of musical sounds dressed in acoustic rhythms that had everyone in the Brighton Dome Concert Hall playfully dancing to both old and new songs. The concert took place on Tuesday the 3rd of March and had as a first act the very talented artist ONR. to warm us up and prepared us for the main event.
Robert David Shields, known professionally as ONR., gave the feeling of complete freedom and confidence on stage with his alternative pop sounds reminding the listener of sounds that actually inspired him, such as Depeche Mode, the Killers and Arcade Fire. His energy created an atmosphere of childhood innocence, as we saw him singing and dancing with an intensity that quickly spread to the crowd, seeing the audience in the concert hall jumping up and down while singing alongside the artist. We had the privilege to be the first ones to listen live to his new song “Sober”, released last week with Capitol Records, as he announced that he will be back in London in May – and the tickets are selling out fast, so to avoid any disappointments, go get yours asap!
Much awaited, Jake Bugg followed ONR., coming on stage and reminding everyone of his ability to sing about heartache, joy and memories with such depth that does not match his young age. The talented artist, who seemed really happy to be able to show off all of his guitars, offered a relaxed ambiance to the crowd, with songs reminding us of the warm summer days such as “Simple As This” (2012) and his latest single, “Kiss Like the Sun” (2019), as well as others that had the crowd screaming with joy, such as “Lightning Bolt” (2012). Jake Bugg’s songs remind of the free and careless days of summer, endless road trips spent driving into the sunset with your friends, and his amazing guitar skills and vocals both awake those happy memories and appease broken souls.
Jake Bugg’s first night on tour can only be characterised as a huge success and we wish him many more of these to come. If you were at the concert, share with us your experience, send us your comments, tell us how you felt while listening to the music, and if you were not, try and get to the next one, as Jake Bugg was and definitely still is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
