The Verse’s Lou Clement previews the Banff Mountain Film Festival coming to the Brighton Dome on Thursday 20th April 2017
Banff returns to Brighton for the second part of its 2017 film programme, and follows the excellent Red programme, shown earlier in the year. The event takes place at the Brighton Dome and will showcase films of adventure and exploration. In these films, people take on challenges that often display bravery and resilience. That someone was there with a video camera and that the stories unfold as interesting and passionate narratives is what makes Banff so very special.
It is now an annual event that I depend on for inspiration and awe-inspiring journeys. The films range in length from 4 to 44 minutes. The programmes are developed by Banff annually, and then tour the world. They are selected from hundreds of films entered into the international Banff Mountain Film Festival, held every November in the Canadian Rockies.
The films often focus on athletes, some experienced and some new to their pastimes. Following them as they cycle, hike, climb and boat around the world. Some of the films also have conservation themes, or relate to communities that live in some of the most hostile environments. It’s always insightful and exciting.
To watch these films on the big screen in the comfort of the lovely Brighton Dome is also going to be wonderful. I am excited to be an armchair explorer. Following the expeditions and adrenaline fuelled voyages of a wide array of people and in some of the wildest places left on earth.
The Blue film programme will be shown on April 20 from 7:30- 10:30pm.
The film line-up for the evening is as follows. There will also be a chance to win prizes throughout the night, from the Banff sponsors.
