REVIEW: The Greatest Showman sing-along @ Grand Parade, 21/10/18

The Verse’s Ida Hansen lets us know what she thought of The Greatest Showman sing along on 21st October 2018.

On Sunday 21st October the first event in a series of events organized by South coast Conferences and the Brighton Student’s Union took place at the Sallis Benney Theatre at Grand Parade. Happy students, some bringing their children along for the fun, and a few people from the general Brighton community left the sunny Sunday behind to sing along to arguably the most popular musical of the year: The Greatest Showman.

After enjoying nachos in the Grand Parade Café, stocked up with snacks and drinks, the guests were led into the theatre where the screening began. It was an intimate and relaxed event. The more emotional songs resulted in sporadic applause, and the silent hum of enthusiastic singing glazed the amazing performance of the likes of Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron. Especially the song This Is Me. A Golden Globe Award-winning tune, performed by Keala Settle which sent shivers through the crowd and made everyone sing a little bit louder.

The event was a huge success and laid the base for this new initiative from the University, designed to give students from different courses and campuses the opportunity to come together, meet new people and socialize in a different setting. Future events include a Christmas food market and the double feature, a quiz night and a talent showcase. The next event takes place on 24th November and is a secret art-film screening in collaboration with the Brighton-based pop-up cinema experience, White Wall Cinema.
