PREVIEW: The Butch Monologues @ The Marlborough Theatre, 15/11/2017

The Verse’s Csenge Krokovay previews The Butch Monologues, which comes to The Marlborough Theatre on Wednesday 15th November.

The Butch Monologues: 5 butches,
50 stories exploring sexuality, vulnerability, and desire;
60 minutes of the influential and hilarious show now coming to Brighton!

This and so much more we can expect in Laura Bridgeman’s play – The Butch Monologues, directed by Julie McNamara.

Prepare to hear secret stories taken from interviews with butches, masculine women and gender queers from all around the world. The play is performed by The Drakers, a group of all-masculine women who joined together in friendship to promote butch pride and masculine solidarity on stage and through other media. They are also involved with numerous creative projects as well as party-hosting.

Theatre lovers who are familiar with the name of the show, the play pays tribute to the episodic play of Eve Ensler, The Vagina Monologues. Similarly, this play also deals with topics of body image, sexual experiences and ‘taboos’, all told by women. Interestingly, one of Laura Bridgeman’s previous works, The (Trans)Mangina Monologues, also transmits the production.

This excellent piece of theatre is offering an open-minded performance and a safe place to explore this interesting horizon of contemporary life. It’s guaranteed to be a humorous show topped with an unforgettable theatre experience. If that is what you are looking for then get down to The Marlborough Theatre on Wednesday 15th November at 7:30 pm for The Butch Monologues.
