PREVIEW: Franz Ferdinand @ Brighton Dome, 25/02/2018

The Verse’s Lottie Wilson previews Franz Ferdinand ahead of their gig at The Dome on the 28th of February 2018.

If you’ve ever attended a Fat Poppadaddys’ club night, you would have heard Franz Ferdinand’s’ iconic track Take Me Out. No indie playlist would be complete without their music, and now the Glaswegian group are visiting Brighton!

Known for their alternative sound, the band has been creating music for over 15 years. Alongside their signature track, the quintets’ first album won a Mercury Prize, with later tracks then nominated for Best Rock Performance by a Group at the Grammy Awards. After this nomination Franz Ferdinand began to experiment with sound, using synths to produce dance-inspired music. Their new album, Always Ascending, is set for release in February 2018.

Luckily for us, the band are performing at Brighton Dome on 25th February 2018. This gives us plenty of time to decide on our favourite tracks from their latest musical offering. With the lead single, the album’s title track, already released we have an indication of how experimental the new album is going to be. This is the first album to feature Dino Bardot and Julian Corrie on backing vocals and it’s sure to be a new sound from this archetypal group.

With the lead singer himself telling NME that ‘this one sounds quite different from our previous records – it’s a bit wider and less of a ‘straight up guitar’ album’ (Oct 2017), there is a lot of excitement surrounding the band.

If you enjoy an indie dance track, make sure to be at Brighton Dome on 28th February 2018. This night promises to be a thrilling transition for Franz Ferdinand’s’ sound.
