PREVIEW: Kew The Music @ Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew 11-16/07/2017

The Verse’s Kate Horrobin previews Kew Gardens’s Kew The Music, taking place from the Tuesday 11th – Sunday 16th July 2017

The Royal Botanical Gardens of Kew’s ethos is premised on a simple, yet overlooked truth: all our lives depend on plants and fungi. Kew’s ambition is to build a global resource for plant and fungal knowledge. And with over 8.5million items they’ve certainly collated an extensive database. The gardens have over 50 different areas to see ranging from cacti, shrubbery, bamboo, waterlilies and so on – and then there’s the gift shop.

And so, in support of their mission, this summer brings you Kew The Music. Artists are joining the gardens to celebrate a week-long festival of summer picnic concerts set around the Royal Botanic Gardens. Over the week, the unique festival will feature acts including Passenger, Razorlight, All Saints, Haçienda Classiçal, James and Mary J Blige. A day of hip hop followed by a stroll through the lily-pad centre is the sort of day for us.

The gardens are a 30 minute tube journey from central London and each day performers will take to the stage from 6pm and play on until 10.30pm. There are a variety of ticket packages available, some including a BBQ overlooking the gardens, or you could treat yourself to a VIP picnic hamper.

For tickets, and more information about what to bring, wear and all of the need-to-knows visit the official Kew the Music website.
